A lifelong guitarist, tinkerer and learner, I became interested in building open-back banjos while learning clawhammer-style banjo.

 

I make each banjo "to order."  And because this is not my day job I take my time, keep my expenses low, and build as time allows.

The name "Quail Creek" is an amalgamation of the neighborhood in which I was raised in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and the creek behind it -- where I played, explored, hid, and wondered.
